Kirk Whalum’s Gospel According to Jazz Celebration has become a staple as the Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest finale.

Kirk Whalum, a peerless saxophonist and composer who brings a deep spirituality to everything he plays, once again has assembled an extraordinary group of musicians to explore gospel music, one of the roots of jazz.

An ordained minister, he has a Masters of Arts degree in Religion.

Take 6 is the most awarded a cappella group in history with 10 Grammy Awards, 10 Dove Awards (Gospel Music Awards), Best Jazz Vocal Group honors for seven consecutive years in Downbeat’s prestigious Readers and Critics Poll, a Soul Train Music Award, BRE (Black Radio Exclusive) Vocal Group of the Year, two NAACP Image Award nominations, induction into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and countless other musical and humanitarian citations.

The group sings contemporary R&B style, integrating jazz influences with spiritual or inspirational lyrics. They have collaborated with such artists such as Ray Charles, Nnenna Freelon, Gordon Goodwin, Don Henley, Whitney Houston, Al Jarreau, Quincy Jones, k.d. lang, Queen Latifah, Brian McKnight, Luis Miguel, Marcus Miller, Joe Sample, Ben Tankard, CeCe Winans, The Manhattan Transfer and Stevie Wonder.

Legendary jazz keyboardist George Duke once described vocalist Kevin Whalum, the younger brother of Kirk, as “butter” in reference to Kevin’s smooth, sweet voice in covering gospel, soul, jazz or scat.

R&B/gospel vocalist and keyboardist John Stoddart is unquestionably one of the music industry’s most notable talents and is an accomplished artist, composer, writer, composer and instrumentalist.

Shelea Frazier is a singer, songwriter, pianist and producer who has composed for Chante Moore, served as a background vocalist on recordings by the Avila Brothers, Tilly Key and Fantasia, toured with Stevie Wonder and headlined at Q’s (owned by Quincy Jones) in Dubai.

Reading’s own DOXA Gospel Ensemble, whose name means “praise,” has been featured many times as guests with other artists, mostly notably in Kirk Whalum’s Gospel According to Jazz Celebration. The vocal ensemble also has presented its own concerts, including one with special guest Gerald Veasley, the renowned bass player.

Sue Duffield is back by popular demand.

Sue's humorous stories and inspirational writings have been featured in New Jersey’s “SJ” Magazine, Absolutely Gospel Music Network, SGN Network,“Laugh Lines” (the National AG Women’s Ministry website) and John C. Maxwell’s book “Everyone Communicates Few Connect” (Thomas Nelson). Sue’s first book on humor and the journey titled, “SueBiquitous: A Humorous Travelog of an Unfiltered Saint!”, is slated for a 2016 release Sue›s velvet-like voice has been compared to Marilyn McCoo, Karen Carpenter and even Rosemary Clooney. Her effervescence of lyric, clarity and interpretation of song has and will always be her greatest strength. Jersey girl Sue married her high school sweetheart, Jeff Duffield, who is a keyboardist, arranger and studio musician, both residing in Nashville, TN. They both traveled with the Sammy Hall Singers of Sevierville, TN in the early 70s.

She speaks for Raymond James Prayer Breakfasts, Prison Fellowship Ministry Briefings, CEF (Child Evangelism Fellowship), Rotary International, MRO (Motor Racing Outreach for NASCAR), CWIMA (Christian Women In Media Assoc.), UMW Regional/National events, Trucker Church Radio, women’s retreats and international conferences. She loves to make people laugh with her off-the-wall Jersey logic and sacred sarcasm. Not surprising, Sue has found it’s a style of humor that resonates with audiences everywhere. This singer/songwriter and former radio personality tours with her own comedy and musical concerts since 1974.
